Hospice may be appropriate when treatments are no longer effective or when the focus shifts toward comfort, symptom management, and quality of life. Early hospice support often provides patients and families with more time, comfort, and resources.

You can contact us directly via our phone number (928) 474-2415 or by filling out a contact form on our website. Doctors and other healthcare providers, or family members and friends, can also make a referral to us.

No. Hospice care focuses on comfort, dignity, peace, and making the most of each day. The goal is to help patients live as fully and comfortably as possible while supporting families throughout the journey.

No. Hospice care is designed to support patients and families for months, not just days. Receiving hospice care earlier often allows patients to experience greater comfort and improved quality of life.

Yes. Hospice typically provides medications related to the terminal diagnosis, along with medical equipment and supplies such as hospital beds, oxygen, wheelchairs, and other comfort-related items.

Yes. Hospice services can be provided wherever the patient lives, including assisted living communities, group homes, nursing homes, and private residences.

Yes. Patients have a choice to allow our medical director to oversee their care or patients may continue seeing their primary care physician while receiving hospice services. Our hospice team works closely with the patient’s doctors to coordinate care and ensure comfort and support.

Hospice focuses on comfort rather than curative or aggressive treatment. However, patients may still receive treatments and medications that help manage pain, symptoms, and improve quality of life.

Aggressive or curative treatment refers to medical care intended to cure or significantly prolong an illness, such as chemotherapy, surgeries, or repeated hospitalizations. Hospice care shifts the focus from curing the illness to providing comfort, dignity, and symptom relief.

No. Hospice care does not automatically end after six months. If a physician determines the patient continues to meet hospice eligibility requirements, services may continue as long as needed.

Yes. Patients may choose to discontinue hospice care at any time if their condition improves or if they decide to pursue curative treatment again. Hospice services can also be restarted later if needed.

No. Hospice benefits do not automatically run out after a certain period of time. While patients initially qualify for hospice with a physician certification of a life expectancy of six months or less, care may continue as long as the patient remains eligible. Hospice services are reviewed regularly to ensure patients continue receiving the support and comfort they need.

To remain eligible for hospice care, a physician must continue to determine that the patient has a life-limiting illness and continues to meet hospice guidelines. Hospice teams regularly evaluate the patient’s condition to ensure services remain appropriate and beneficial. If a patient’s condition improves or stabilizes significantly, they may no longer qualify for hospice services, but care can be restarted later if eligibility changes again.

Patients without Medicare may still qualify for hospice services through Medicaid, private insurance, Veterans benefits, or other coverage options. Hospice of Payson works with families to help determine available benefits and financial resources. Compassionate care is important to us, and no patient is denied care solely because of financial circumstances or lack of insurance coverage.
